Not healing? Some postpartum complications are caused by malpractice

Thousands of concerns flash through an expecting mother's mind. While most of these fears dissipate at the sight of your new baby's face, the issue of mishandled tearing can become a lasting impact. It is common for most mothers to tear slightly when their baby is born, but some cases are more severe.

After months of stress and preparation all you will want to do is relax at home with your new baby. It will be a time to rest and let your body heal, but for some mothers the pain and complications will grow. Some issues can occur due to severe tears such as incontinence, infections, and fistulas.

Mothers don't deserve lasting pain from mishandled care

As new mothers know, birthing is not for the faint of heart. Small tears are common and break the perineum and the top layers of skin. Severe tears, called third degree tears go through the underlying tissues to the pelvic floor muscles. The difference between a second and third degree laceration is very important, but cannot always been seen to the naked eye. These types of tears will not heal naturally and if they are not repaired will result in major problems for the mother. A third degree laceration that has been ignored will result in loss of control of bowl function and will need to be surgically repaired.

A fourth degree tear is very serious and must be repaired by a doctor. These types of tears extend fully to the anus. If fourth degree tears are not properly sewn a hole can form between the rectum and the vaginal canal. This is very dangerous, called a recto-vaginal fistula. No mother should have to suffer through them. If you have experienced these symptoms due to mishandled lacerations you could be eligible for a medical malpractice law suit.
