New Digital Technology Allows for Quicker More Accurate Cancer Diagnosis

The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University has implemented exciting new technology to assist pathologists in reaching diagnoses from biopsies. This allows doctors to scan medical samples from glass slides into digital copies, and is being used to make pathological diagnosis much more efficient and accurate.

Would new technology help prevent bedsores?

One of the most common conditions for patients who are immobile or otherwise bedridden is bedsores (also known as "pressure ulcers" or "decubitus ulcers"). Bedsores generally develop along bony areas of the body, such as the hips or tailbone, because immobile patients are constantly putting weight or pressure on that part of their body. This condition is easily preventable by simply rotating the patient to change their position or using a medical air mattress, which inflates and deflates intermittently to change a patient's pressure points. Unfortunately, even though bedsores are easily preventable, this condition is not uncommon for many patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Statute of Limitations in Ohio for Foreign Objects Left Inside a Patient

The statute of limitations for medical claims can differ greatly depending on the injury. One such injury that demonstrates this difference is one arising from foreign objects being left inside a person's body. A foreign object could be almost anything, such as a medical instrument, gauze pad, surgical sponge, or even a wedding ring.
